Unexpected visit...

You know how you have those times when everything seems against you?
That's been my week.
By Tuesday, I was already hoping for a weekend.
Anything I said or typed or did was sure to upset someone in some way.
I've just buried my head in my work, tried to ignore the nasty, and focus on the positive instead.

And yesterday I got a surprise phone call from my dad.
He was nearby on business. He lives in another state, so it was exciting that he was so close!
We decided to meet for dinner and then head out to show him our new farmstead.
Which still needs a name... Badger Creek. Rusted Hills. Rusted Creek. Rusted Station. Who knows...

An entire evening and the only picture I got was a dirty plate in the restaurant.
By the way, local people, the new Italian restaurant just up the road is very good!
I'm a bit of a restaurant snob and I was impressed. That's saying a lot.

But I'm thrilled with one single picture of a marinara plate because we just spent time enjoying each other.
Laughing at my kids.
Talking.
Wandering around the farm.
Looking at the sunset.
It was the perfect breath of fresh air needed in the middle of a frustrating week.
And my dad is such a great guy.
I know he always has my back, no matter what.
My dad and The Man are the two best men I've ever known.

I was grateful that God put things back into perspective for me.
Sunshine. Fresh air. Blooming flowers. Kids laughing. Dogs jumping on me. Good lighthearted conversations. Lasagna that I didn't have to cook. Dishes that I didn't have to wash.
Leftovers for lunch today.

Good stuff.

What a special day. I love when days that start out not-so-good turn wonderful. Glad you enjoyed time with your dad and your kids.

And, thanks for the idea of sticker tag! What a fun idea. I will store it in my brain for when Ori and Calla are big enough to run around together. Thanks! :)

What new Italian place is that? In town? Glad you had the great time with your Dad!

Today in Streams in the Desert, I read, "George Matheson, the well-known blind preacher of Scotland, once said, 'My dear God, I have never thanked You for my thorns. I have thanked you a thousand times for my roses but not once for my thorns....teach me the value of my thorns. Show me how I have climbed to You through the path of pain. Show me it is through my tears I have seen my rainbows.'" I liked that.

Sounds like perfection to me! I must come visit the farm and you. Want to sit on your porch in a rocking chair with some tea. You now need to get a bloodhound and name him Jeb. :)

What a perfect surprise! I truly hope the rest of your week is better than the beginning! There is nothing like someone else cooking dinner and cleaning up to make you feel better already (and not in your house, either!). :)
I like Rusted Station.
