Flower garden...

I love flowers. LOVE them.
But, I don't want to put a lot of work into them. (I call it smart... others call it lazy. Whatever.)
I just want the plants to do well, on their own, without a lot of babying from me.
And if they come back each year, that's even better.

When we moved here, there were about a gazillion and three irises.
I have nothing against iris, but they aren't really my favorite.

The Man mows over about 1/3 of them and we still have more than you can imagine - white, yellow, lavender, and deep purple.

We're on a mission to pretty up the place, which as you can imagine will take many years and lots of money.
Last summer we put in a lot of plants... and ended up with a severe drought and the hottest summer on record. *sigh*

So this year, we're back at it.
So far so good.

We have tulips, bleeding heart, and hyacinth, as you've seen pictures of on the blog here lately.

We have one purple lilac bush that's doing really well, and a white one that's looking pretty sad.

Last summer I planted hydrangea, roses, and peonies.
I think the hydrangea and roses bit the dust. I think I'm gonna have to start over on them as they just got burned up.

My peonies are popping up though!! I couldn't be more excited about that!
One of the hardest parts for me in leaving our old home, was leaving behind huge beautiful peonies.

This week I've planted sunflowers, dahlias, zinnias, poppies, daisies, and marigolds.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

Do you have a favorite flower, and any tips on growing them?

My peonies are coming up too and I'm excited. They were new last year and you just never know if they're coming back or not the first year. I love daylillies for all my tough gardening spots. Nothing can kill them and they can overcome any weeds.

Yes, I love daylillies too! You can't kill them. ;-)

I'm loving the lilacs this year. Every night when I walk, it smells like grilled lilacs in our neighborhood. I guess that's dinner with some lilacs blooming on the side :)

Ha! Irises! Now I have even more Beki-envy, that you have so many that you mow them. (not envious of your armageddon-snakes)

My absolute favorite (two) are bright, pink roses and sunflowers. Ironically, I can't grow roses. I kill them every time. Have a great day Beki! Love reading your blog. :)

I love irises :)

I want to plant peonies, but haven't done it yet, so I guess I'm going to have to wait until next year.
