The words of God and Rihanna and Taylor Swift

We've been talking a lot lately about being a light. Rihanna said "shine bright like a diamond."
God has called us to be a light in the world.

But sometimes it's hard!
Some will ignore your light. That's okay. Even in the darkest distance, your light can shine.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:5

Some will take great pleasure in trying to puff out your light to watch it flicker.
Taylor Swift said "people throw rocks at things that shine." I believe that to be true.

But here's the deal: You can't control how others respond to your light.
If you see a neighbor in need of light, you can surely share yours. It won't grow any dimmer. In fact, if you can light their lantern, the two combined can shine brighter than one alone.

You shine your light. You won't be able to light the entire world. Many will try to damper it.
You just keep shining.
But your light is between you and God. You shine as Jesus would shine. If they put on sunglasses to not see light, that's between them and God. And He can shine through those sunglasses.

When darkness comes it's simply Him reminding us that we're not home yet. We can thank Him for the darkness and the reminder that there will be struggles on this journey. Thank Him for being the Light that we can turn to.

You're not shining to impress anyone. You're not trying to illuminate the entire world on your own.
You're simply shining because God has told us to shine. You're shining to reflect His Light - the Light of the world.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33
